JAMSHEDPUR: While 65-year-old gram pradhan (village head) of Gobrani village, Surendranath Hansdah, was trampled to death by a wild elephant when he was on the way to the polling booth under the Baharagora police station in East Singhbhum to cast his vote, John Mandi (35), a reserved polling official for Baharagora, died on duty on Saturday, police said.

Hansdah was walking through the Gobrabani forest stretch when he came across the elephant. A UCIL employee and resident of Jadugora, John started feeling uneasy around 3pm when other officials took him to a local hospital from where he was referred to the Tata Main Hospital. But John died on the way, doctors said. tnn
