Three killed in violent incidents in 3 districts

KOCHI/KOZHIKODE: Three persons were killed in separate incidents across the state on Sunday. A 34-year-old man was hacked to death at Palarivattom in Kochi early on Sunday morning. The deceased was identified as Maneesh alias Manilkumar of Thammanam. It is suspected that the murder took place following an argument. Another youth also sustained stab wounds in the incident, said police.Palarivattom police took a 34-year-old man, one Jithesh of Thammanam, into custody in connection with the crime.
Police said the victims and the accused had a drunken brawl on Saturday night and went separate ways after residents intervened to stop their fight. Maneesh and his friend later went to Jithesh’s house as if to continue the earlier scuffle. Police suspect that Jithesh attacked them when they tried to force their way into his house to attack him.
Meanwhile in Kozhikode, an autorickshaw driver was hacked to death early on Sunday morning. The deceased was identified as Sreekanth NP (47) son of Damodaran and a resident of Nadakkavu. The crime occurred around 6am on Sunday.
The murder happened along Vellayil road. It is learnt that police have taken a suspect into custody and are questioning him. Police are probing if it was a drunken brawl that led to his murder. Police sources said that the victim had cases registered against him in the past.
In Kottayam, Libin Jose (26) was killed after he was stabbed with scissors while three others, including a woman, were injured in a scuffle that occurred during a party organized at a home near Pala on Sunday, said the police. The incident reported at Kollappally around 2am happened when friends and relatives assembled to celebrate the holy communion of a child. There was a verbal spat during the party. Pala Police reached the spot and took the accused into custody. The injured were admitted to a hospital.
