Who is Kishorilal (KL) Sharma?
NEW DELHI: Kishorilal Sharma handpicked by the Gandhi family to represent Amethi, is making a strong showing in his electoral debut.
With a commanding lead of over one lakh votes, Sharma is ahead of his rival, Union minister Smriti Irani.
KL Sharma, a native of Ludhiana, Punjab, has served as the manager of the party and Sonia Gandhi's representative in Rae Bareli during her absence for an extended period.
According to reports, prior to his current role, Sharma had a close association with former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. Following his passing in 1991, Sharma succeeded in solidifying his connection with the Gandhi family even further.
As per reports, he initially arrived in Amethi in 1983 and has since been diligently overseeing a significant portion of the party's matters within this parliamentary district.
It is also widely believed that he played an instrumental role in Sonia Gandhi's first electoral win in Amethi back in 1999.
