The constituency’s current MLA is NH Shivashankara Reddy, a member of the Congress party.
In 2018 assembly elections, Shivashankara Reddy secured victory by defeating his opponent C R Narasimhamurthy of the Janata Dal (secular) with a margin of 9,168 votes.
This time also both — Shivashankara and Narasimhamurthy — are in the fray.
Voting in Karnataka will take place on May 10 and the results will be announced on May 13.

The Karnataka unit of Congress is under pressure to perform well in the seven districts of Kalyana Karnataka as a result of Mallikarjun Kharge's election to the position of All India Congress Committee (AICC) president. The area is after all Kharge Saab's backyard.
The region has historically been a Congress stronghold, and in the 2018 elections, the party won 21 of the total 40 seats. For Congress to form the government, the area must perform well.
