BARAMULLA/SRINAGAR: The Election Commission of India (EC) on March 16 announced the dates the voting and result declaration dates for the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
The polls will be held in 7 phases from April 19 to June 1, covering a total of 543 constituencies.

In the North Kashmir's Baramulla Lok Sabha constituency, Former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister and National Conference (NC) leader Omar Abdullah, Jammu and Kashmir People's Conference (JKPC) chief Sajjad Gani Lone, Jammu and Kashmir's Peoples' Democratic Party's (JKPDP) Fayaz Ahmad Mir and jailed independent candidate Sheikh abdul rashid , popularly known as Engineer Rashid are the main contenders.

The Baramulla Lok Sabha constituency encompasses a vast region that spans across three districts: Kupwara, Baramulla, and Bandipur. It is divided into fifteen assembly constituencies, with seven of them - Uri, Pattan, Sopore, Baramulla, Gulmarg, Rafiabad, and Sangrama - situated in the Baramulla district. Five constituencies - Karnah, Kupwara, Handwara, Lolab, and Langate - are located within the Kupwara district, while the remaining three are part of the Bandipur district.
While Kashmir gained only one new assembly seat post-delimitation, Jammu saw the creation of six new seats. The newly formed Trehgam assembly segment in Kashmir now belongs to the Baramulla constituency. Furthermore, two assembly segments, Budgam and Beerwah, previously part of the neighboring Srinagar constituency, have been merged with Baramulla, bringing the total number of assembly segments to 18.
