On the day of its release, Nag Ashwin’s Kalki 2898 AD starring Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan, Prabhas and Deepika Padukone set the box office on fire with a Rs 95.3 crore collection, one of the biggest in Indian Cinema.
The film received love from all quarters of the globe with even North American circuit clocking in more than US $ 5.5 million for its premiere and day 1 collection put together and is expected to cross US $ 10 to US $ 12 million weekend collection. This will be the first film since the success of Baahubali 2- The Conclusion to achieve this feat.
But as the initial rush settled down, the film crashed by nearly 43 % to collect Rs 54 crore, as per early estimates by Sacnilk. The Telugu version contributed Rs 25.65 crore , which on day 1 was Rs 65.8 crore. The Hindi numbers are of great significance here as even on day 2 it contributed Rs 22.5 crore just like day 1. It just goes on to show that Hindi audiences have begun to lap up the film in a big way and over the weekend, one can expect the same kind of spike in Hindi as it is expected in Telugu.
The two day collection of the film now stands at Rs 149.3 crore, with Telugu providing Rs 91.45 crore and Hindi providing Rs 45 crore and the rest coming from Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam languages. The film is expected to cross the Rs 200 crore mark by the end of the day in India.
Besides the lead cast, the film also has a range of guest appearances from SS Rajamouli to Ram Gopal Varma to Mrunal Thakur to Vijay Deverakonda to Dulquer Salmaan.
