Hit reality series 'Face Off' now available for streaming on OTT

Syfy's beloved reality TV competition, ‘Face Off’, has made a triumphant return to screens, landing on Netflix on November 7 after a more than five-year hiatus. Not to be confused with the Nicolas Cage film of a similar name, this show brings forth a unique blend of talent and creativity as special effects makeup artists go head-to-head in a Top Chef-style competition.

The show, featuring two seasons, challenges its contestants to create astonishing makeup artistry within incredibly tight timeframes. Often working in teams, the artists collaborate and divide their workload to bring fantastical and often otherworldly creations to life.
With themes rooted in the realms of sci-fi, horror, and fantasy, ‘Face Off’ showcases the artists' skills in crafting intricate creature makeup that can typically take weeks or even months to complete, condensed into mere hours and days. The show's drama revolves around the artistic process itself, highlighting moments of tension as artists push their creative boundaries and face last-minute challenges.
Each episode typically begins with a foundation challenge, involving makeup and pre-existing prosthetic pieces applied to models. The spotlight challenge allows artists more time to create complex and captivating makeup pieces that are then presented to a panel of industry experts and guest judges.
The streaming giant is currently offering seasons four and five, providing viewers with a closer look at the competition's evolution. The challenges in season four mark the introduction of full-body makeup and the inclusion of Michael Westmore, an Oscar-winning effects artist and father of host McKenzie Westmore, as a mentor.
