The Plato Law Firm serves as counsel for the City. They handle every day legal matters for the City and also attends all council meetings.

Freedom of Information Act

The Michigan Freedom of Information Act regulates and sets requirements for the disclosure of public records by all “public bodies” in the state. The City of Ecorse is a Public Body. “Public record” means writing prepared, owned, used, in the possession of, or retained by a public body in the performance of an official function, from the time it is created. Public record does not include computer software. Except as expressly provided in Section 13 of the Michigan Freedom of Information Act, upon providing a public body's FOIA coordinator with a written request that describes a public record sufficiently to enable the public body to find the public record, a person has a right to inspect, copy, or receive copies of the requested public record of the public body.
