Creating code from a screenshot

I recently sat down with Daniel Puiatti, who uses AI for literally everything. But, we didn't talk about everything, just a few ways that he uses AI in his marketing work and in his everyday life.

In the playback, Dan shows a demonstration that I will definitely try. He took a screenshot of a website, circled an element from the site that he liked, uploaded the screenshot to ChatGPT and prompted it to write the code for the element. He could the apply the code to his own website. Basically you can take this and run with it, without having to know any code. This is a simple example, but it does open up new opportunities for more creativity in less time.

Here is a summary of what we talked about.

In the beginning

Dan has spent 12 years working in marketing and communications. He didn't start out in this field, though. He first studied political science and philosophy but later got a practical diploma in communications and public relations from Centennial College. Realizing jobs in philosophy were scarce, he pivoted to something more practical. Dan's career journey included internships, a significant role at SickKids, and eventually leading him to become the online editor for a small adventure travel magazine, Outpost Magazine. In this role, he did a bit of everything, sparking his interest in digital marketing and web development.

How Dan uses AI at work

Dan's curiosity drove him to teach himself programming, especially as he got more involved in digital communications. He became particularly interested in artificial intelligence (AI) when tools like ChatGPT came out. He found these tools revolutionary for automating tasks and making his job easier, which allowed him to focus on strategy and leadership instead of getting bogged down in manual tasks.

At work, Dan used AI to quickly create website components, like pop-up notifications, which would have normally required a web developer. This not only sped up his projects but also made it possible for others on his team who didn't have programming skills to contribute to technical tasks.

Outside of work, Dan uses AI in his personal life too, like generating recipes based on what's in his kitchen, which saves money and encourages trying new things.

Will we become too dependent?

While excited about AI's potential, Dan is also cautious. He worries about people becoming overly dependent on AI for critical thinking and decision-making. However, he's optimistic about AI's ability to improve fields like medicine and science and believes in its power to remove barriers to creativity and innovation.

In short, Dan's story highlights how AI can transform work and personal life, making tasks easier and allowing for more creativity. But he also reminds us to use AI wisely and consider its impact on our skills and society.
