  • The tropics are heating up and NC could potentially see some tropical weather in the next few days. Are you ready? Make sure you have signed up to receive wireless emergency alerts. WEAs are text notifications sent by emergency officials directly to your cell phone and warn you of immediate danger. The alerts will tell you the type of warning, the area affected, and the duration. There are three types of alerts: Presidential alerts in the event of a nationwide emergency, Imminent Threat alerts like severe weather, and Amber Alerts. Emergency officials encourage residents to keep WEAs enabled on your phones so you will be able to protect yourself by taking immediate action. For more information, or to get signed up for county alerts, visit ReadyNC.Gov at: https://lnkd.in/efpKmTER #hurricaneseason2024 #GetReady

  • Today, we join the Navy and the nation in celebrating #Juneteenth! Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day or Emancipation Day celebrates June 19, 1865, when enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas, finally learned of their freedom from the slavery system in the United States. Juneteenth is the oldest known celebration commemorating the ending of slavery in the United States. Today is a day to reflect, celebrate, and educate. ⚓ Celebrating Freedom! 🇺🇸 Today, we honor the enduring spirit of freedom and resilience. As we commemorate a day of American freedom. #OTD in 1865-- more than two years after President Abraham Lincoln signed the emancipation proclamation, Union troops arrived in Galveston Bay, Texas with news, freeing 250,000 people still held in bondage.

  • Today, we celebrate our Nation’s Flag! 🇺🇸 The first U.S. Flag was adopted by the Second Continental Congress on June 14, 1777, just shy of year after the Declaration of Independence from Great Britain on July 4, 1776. In 1916, President Woodrow Wilson signed a Presidential Proclamation declaring June 14 as a national day of observance. Today, we celebrate 247 years of the U. S. Flag being a beacon of pride and patriotism and a representation of freedom across the globe. Since the first flag, known as “Old Glory” in 1777, there have been multiple modifications to change it into what we know today.
