About us

NAVFAC Southwest is responsible for public works, planning, engineering/design, construction, real estate, environmental services, and acquisition / disposal of facilities and real estate in a six state area on the West Coast. NAVFAC Southwest contracts with commercial businesses to produce and deliver construction for the military such as housing, piers, airfields and hospitals to name a few. The command also provides public works services such as transportation, maintenance, utilities/energy delivery, facilities management and base operations support to the Navy and Marine Corps Installations within its geographic area of responsibility as well as support to other federal agencies in California.

    Summer Intern Spotlight: https://lnkd.in/dme7fHTp Luis Duran Summer intern Luis Duran joined the San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance and NAVFAC SW for a meaningful day of conservation efforts. We had the incredible opportunity to participate in the banding of endangered rails at the Living Coast before they were released at Naval Base Ventura County Pt. Mugu. Luis also assisted in the release of captive-reared snowy plovers and banded several California least tern chicks on the Silver Strand Training Complex North. Luis's dedication and hands-on involvement in these vital conservation projects highlight the impactful work our team at NAVFAC SW is doing to support wildlife and environmental sustainability.     Naval Weapons Station Seal Beach held a ribbon-cutting ceremony July 10, to mark the completion of a $157 million modernization project to replace an aging ammunition pier and reimagine the layout of the Anaheim Bay to better meet present-day needs of the Navy. NAVFAC Southwest worked with the installation to develop the project and selected the contractor to execute the work. https://lnkd.in/e5yhpWTX

    NAVFAC Southwest Commanding Officer Capt. Laurie Scott presented Yeoman First Class Thomas Reyes with a Navy Commendation Medal for Meritorious Service July 3 in San Diego. Reyes served as Administrative Leading Petty Officer and Command Pay and Personnel Administrator for NAVFAC Southwest from December 2020 to July 2024.

    Southwest Employee Spotlight | Meet Engineer Sarah Galo, P.E., a dedicated Structural Engineer at NAVFAC Southwest! With a bachelor's degree in civil engineering (structural emphasis) from Boise State University and certification as a professional engineer, Sarah has been making a significant impact at NAVFAC SW for the past year. Her role includes designing and analyzing structures, managing projects, performing site visits, and overseeing contracts. Sarah's journey to NAVFAC was driven by her desire to support the Navy’s mission through her structural engineering expertise.   Sarah's most rewarding experiences at NAVFAC SW involve working closely with multidisciplinary teams to design solutions for elite military training facilities. She values the diverse opportunities NAVFAC SW provides, from working on buildings and bridges to various military structures. Sarah's advice to aspiring engineers is to join NAVFAC SW to gain and expand experience in design, project management, and fieldwork. Her commitment is fueled by the knowledge that her work directly supports the Navy’s mission and has a profound impact on her community and country.

    Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command Southwest awarded a combined $3 Billion firm-fixed-price, indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity multiple award construction contract for new construction and repair and renovation projects June 13.     Members from the NAVFAC Southwest Executive Steering Group toured Naval Air Station Fallon last week during the quarterly ESG offsite. NAS Fallon Public Works Officer, Cmdr. Dan Muller, NAVFAC Southwest Deputy Public Works Officer at NAS Fallon, Bill Brown, and NAVFAC Southwest Facilities Engineering Acquisition Division Director for NAS Fallon, Lt. Zane Witt, showed the ESG how NAVFAC Southwest provides support readiness for the tenants of the installation.

    Members from the NAVFAC Southwest Office of Counsel recently toured Naval Special Warfare Center and observed Navy SEALs in training at Naval Base Coronado. The group visited training locations used by the Navy SEALs, including the grinder, the combat pool, and the obstacle course on the beach. The visit also included a tour of the Coastal Campus, which was recently built by NAVFAC Southwest, and houses state-of-the-art ranges, training rooms, and the combat pool.
