    About ‘Article 370’

Headlined by Yami Gautam, ‘Article 370’ is directed by two-time National Award-winning director Aditya Subhas Jambhale. The movie has been penned by Gautam’s husband Aditya Dhar, also the director of the Vicky Kaushal-led blockbuster ‘Uri’. The film went on to become a critical and commercial hit in 2019.

The films deal with terrorism and corruption-stricken Jammu & Kashmir. Gautam essays the role of an intelligence officer who is a member of the NIA and is given the responsibility to carry out a mission in Kashmir. The movie revolves around the scrapping of Article 370, which bequeathed special status to the state of Jammu & Kashmir. Once the article was scrapped, Indians from every other state gained the right to migrate there buy land and property, and permanently settle there. This move by the BJP-led government gained widespread criticism globally.

Aside from Gautam, the movie also stars Tamil star Priyamani, Kiran Karmakar, and ‘Ramayan’ actor Arun Govil in pivotal roles.

At a promotional launch, Dhar denied that the movie was a move to help the reigning party BJP win another round of elections. Addressing the media, Dhar said, “The current government does not need a small film to win an election. They made the Ram Mandir for us, it took us 500 years to get that, I do not think they need us to get them votes."

Defending the film against rumours of it being a government mouthpiece, Gautam told PTI, “If someone is calling it names… like ‘propaganda’, ‘jingoism’, and ‘chest-thumping’… Any section that goes into theatres already thinking or carrying a preconceived notion that this is what it’s about, you’ll never be able to feel or enjoy the film. There is no point in justifying the film to them. I don’t think the audience thinks about these things. This film is for the majority of the audience and we make films for the audience.”
