The 42nd edition of the ITB Berlin will begin on March 5 this year. At the five-day event in Berlin, exhibitors and visitors can find all the links in the added value chain of the tourism industry from service providers to tour operators from more than 180 countries. All the diversity of the world of travel can be experienced here in 26 halls covering a display area of 160,000 square metres, and in just five days.

The Indo-German Chamber of Commerce represents ITB Berlin for exhibitors and trade visitors from India. The Indo-German Chamber of Commerce, having offices in Mumbai, New Delhi, Chennai, Bangalore and Kolkata in addition to an office in Dsseldorf, is the largest German bilateral Chamber anywhere in the world.

In addition to the major role it plays in fostering and increasing trade relations between India and Germany, the Indo-German Chamber of Commerce under the guidance of Mr Bernhard Steinruecke, Director General, also represents several German trade fair organisations such as Messe Berlin, Messe Muenchen, Nuremberg Messe and some fairs organised by Messe Essen and Messe Stuttgart.

Messe Berlin is represented by Ms Deepika Unni, who is based in India and is hence responsible for all Indian movement to ITB Berlin. She is also the contact for Indian participations at ITB Asia. She assists companies to register as exhibitors for both shows, coordinates and assists with booth placement, exhibitor passes, travel and visa assistance etc.

She works closely with Ms Rika Jean-Franois, Product Manager ITB Berlin, Regional Manager Indo-Asia / Pacific who is charge of the Indian exhibitors at ITB Berlin. Visitors can get the entrance tickets for visiting ITB Berlin and ITB Asia through Ms Unni at the Indo-German Chamber of Commerce. Contact: [email protected].

India was the ITB Berlin Partner Country in 2007. About109,735 trade visitors and 68,419 members of the general public visited the ITB Berlin 2007, and the ITB Convention counted some 9,000 participants. The ministry of tourism had a large presence with all the state tourism boards under them and a large number of individual companies as co exhibitors.

The success is obvious from the fact that even though this year India is not the ITB partner country, it has the same number of exhibitors as it had last year when it was the partner country. This once again shows that for the Indian travel and tourism industry, ITB Berlin is an important trade fair.
