    • Anurag Thakur was elected as the president of the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association in 2000. He retained the post for four consecutive terms
    • He has served as the national president of Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP)’s youth wing, the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha, for seven years
    • Thakur became a Member of Parliament (MP) for the first time in 2008 after winning the Lok Sabha by-election from the Hamirpur constituency in Himachal Pradesh
    • He was re-elected for a second term to the Lower House of Parliament in 2009. During this time, he was a member of the Standing Committee on Transport, Tourism and Culture, and a member of the Consultative Committee of the Ministry of Power
