- After dropping out of UCLA, Barry Diller started working at William Morris Agency as a mail clerk in 1961
- Diller joined ABC Entertainment in 1966 and started out with an assistant’s job. He worked his way up to hold many leadership roles in the company. During his tenure, he served as the vice-president of programming (1968-70), feature films & movies (1970-73) and prime time television during 1973-74
- He was the chairman & CEO of Paramount Pictures Corporation between 1974 and 1984
- In 1983, he also became the president of Gulf & Western Entertainment GR
- He joined Fox Inc. in 1984 as its chairman & CEO and stayed there till 1992. At Fox, he pioneered the creation of Fox Broadcasting Company and the company’s motion picture operations. He also worked along with the company’s new owner Rupert Murdoch during his time there
- Between 1992 and 1995, Diller worked as the chairman & CEO of QVC after acquiring the company
- In 1995, he acquired Silver King Communications Inc. Following a series of acquisitions, he formed the media and internet company IAC/InterActiveCorp in 2003. He served as the firm’s chairman & CEO from its formation till 2010. After stepping down as CEO in 2010, he assumed the roles of chairman & senior executive at IAC
- In 2011, he joined Tripadvisor Inc. as its chairman & senior executive and continued in the roles till late 2012
- In 2018, he became Expedia Group Inc.’s chairman & senior executive
- His company IAC operates more than 150 brands which, among others, include Vimeo, Dotdash, Care.com, Ask.com, Angie’s List, Match.com and Investopedia
