Amul milk price hiked by Rs 2/litre from today, sparks consumer concerns post elections
The Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF) has announced a Rs 2 per litre price hike for all variants of Amul milk, effective from Monday. The decision was made in response to the rising costs of operation and milk production. Jayen Mehta, Managing Director of GCMMF, confirmed the price increase, noting that the last adjustment was made in February 2023. The hike aims to compensate farmers for their increased production costs.

RS Sodhi steps down as Amul MD, Jayen Mehta to take charge

“In the last one year, MRP increase has been only 9% in all varieties except full cream where it is 12% to 13% vis-à-vis price paid to the farmers have increased by 15%. If you compare the input cost increase, dry fodder cost has increased by more than 60-70%, green fodder by 40-50% and cattle feed price has increased by 20-22%. ”

“Among all the food items, the minimum price increase has happened in milk, only 8-9% in the last one and a half-two years. Amul or the other cooperatives or the dairy sector is also paying around 8% to 9% more price for milk compared to previous year. But then the cost of production of milk for the farmer has increased around 15% to 20% because the cattle feed ingredients.”
