    Sebi for mandatory disclosure of risk-adjusted return by MFs

    "... it is felt that the risk adjusted return (RAR) of a scheme portfolio represents a more holistic measure of the scheme's performance because it quantifies the amount of return generated by a mutual fund scheme for each unit of risk taken to achieve that return," Sebi said in a discussion paper.

    Risk-adjusted return offers a comprehensive view of a mutual fund's performance by measuring the return earned per unit of risk taken. Currently, regulations do not require disclosure of RAR alongside standard returns for mutual funds.

    As per data from Franklin Templeton, sectoral and thematic funds garnered ₹70,072, or 31% of the total net inflows of ₹2.27 lakh crore, in the past 12 months. This helped make sectoral funds the second-largest equity mutual fund category after flexi-cap funds, with assets of ₹3.37 lakh crore, constituting 13% of the total equity mutual fund assets of ₹25.4 lakh crore.

    Around 249 equity mutual funds have offered more than 60% returns in tha last one year. Of these, 5 gave over 70% returns in the said period, according to the data extracted from ACE MF.

In ETMarkets' recent analysis, 32 of these stocks saw their prices surge by over 25% in CY24 and are held by more than 100 mutual fund schemes.       In April, equity mutual funds witnessed a 16% decrease in inflows totaling Rs 18,917.09 crore. Sectoral/thematic funds had the highest inflow at Rs 5,166.05 crore, while large & mid cap funds also received substantial inflows.
