Man arrested for hunting wild rabbit in Tamil Nadu
ERODE: Forest department officials on Monday arrested a man for hunting a wild rabbit in a forest area in Anthiyur in Erode district. The man, identified as M Prakash, 31, of Gurunathapuram, hunted the rabbit with an airgun and prepared its meat for cooking.
Forester V Parthiban of the Erode district forest protection force received information that a villager from Gurunathapuram entered the forest with firearms on Sunday night.
Parthiban and Anthiyur forest range officer (FRO) Murugesan conducted searches in the village. They found rabbit meat in Prakash’s house.
They seized three airguns and their lenses, knives, torches, four pieces sandalwood logs and three kilograms of rabbit meat from his house.
"Investigations revealed that Prakash was using airguns to hunt rabbits and birds in forest and also in nearby plantations," the FRO said.
A case was registered as directed by Erode district forest officer K V Appala Naidu.
