New panel to map drains in Panaji
Panaji: The Imagine Panaji Smart City Development Limited (IPSCDL) has constituted an advisory committee of stakeholders to map stormwater drains in Panaji.
The 10-member panel is headed by the chief executive officer of IPSCDL and includes representatives of the Corporation of the City of Panaji, directorate of settlement and land records, water resources department etc.
The committee will develop a comprehensive strategy for mapping stormwater drains across the city. This involves coordinating with relevant stakeholders to ensure a systematic and accurate approach to mapping.
The committee will oversee the data collection of existing stormwater infrastructure, including drain locations, dimensions, capacities and conditions.
The data will be analysed and vulnerable areas will be identified.
It will also supervise the mapping process to create detailed maps of stormwater drains and associated infrastructure. These maps document the precise locations, configurations and connections of drains, culverts, outfalls and other components of the drainage work.
The committee will recommend IPSCDL to improve the efficiency, resilience, and capacity of the stormwater drainage system.
It will include identifying areas in need of maintenance or repairs, proposing new infrastructure investments or upgrades, and developing long-term flood management and climate adaptation strategies to mitigate the impacts of extreme weather on the city’s drainage infrastructure.
