Twin reservoirs near full capacity as rains lash Hyderabad

The heavy rains received this month have seen the Osmansagar and Himayatsagar reservoirs reaching their full water level capacity. On Saturday, six floodgates of Osmansagar and 17 floodgates of Himayatsagar were lifted and discharged flood water.

HYDERABAD: The heavy rains received this month have seen the Osmansagar and Himayatsagar reservoirs reaching their full water level capacity. On Saturday, six floodgates of Osmansagar and 17 floodgates of Himayatsagar were lifted and discharged flood water.
This is the second time that the floodgates of twin reservoirs opened in three consecutive months.
According to the HMWSSB statement released on Saturday, the water level at Osmansagar was 1,789ft against the full tank level (FTL) of 1,790ft. Meanwhile, Himayatsagar recorded water level of 1762.20 ft against 1,763 ft FTL.
Based on India Meteorological Department (IMD) predictions on heavy rains in the coming days, there are chances for more floodgates to open, HMWSSB officials cautioned police, revenue, civic bodies and other government departments.
