West Bengal gears up for cyclonic storm threat, fire minister Sujit Bose holds review meet

The state fire department in Kolkata is preparing for a possible cyclonic storm or severe depression towards the weekend. Minister Sujit Bose reviewed the preparedness and alerted all fire stations across districts, with 84 teams on standby to manage emergencies like removing trees and live wires.

KOLKATA: The state fire and emergency services department is keeping themselves prepared to take on any emergency situation if the state gets hit by a cyclonic storm or severe depression resulting in storms and thudernshowers towards the weekend.
Fire and emergency services minister Sujit Bose took a review meeting with all senior officers of the department to take stock on the preparedness.

"All fire stations across the districts are being alerted to be prepared and ready for any kind of emergency situation as there is a prediction of a cyclonic storm. Fire stations for south bengal have already been alerted and north bengal will also be informed," Bose said.
"We have prepared 84 teams which will remain alert in different places and the divisional fire officers (DFO) will keep in touch with CESC, state electricity board and disaster management authorities to manage any emergency situation," the minister added.
Bose said that motorbikes will be ready for officers to move on as teams will be kept ready in standby for removing trees, livewires and others in case the situation arises.
