Patna University student waylaid, killed by masked youths in law college

Final-year student Harsh Kumar, son of journalist Ajit Kumar, was beaten to death by masked assailants near Patna Law College. The attackers, 10-15 in number, targeted him with rods and bricks. CCTV footage is being examined to identify the culprits.

PATNA: A final-year student of B N College, who had a brawl with some students of Patna University over organising a “dandiya night” event during Dussehra last year, was beaten to death by a group of 10-15 masked youth while he was leaving Patna Law College after appearing for an examination around 12.45pm on Monday.
The victim was identified as Harsh Kumar, son of Ajit Kumar, a Vaishali-based journalist.Harsh, 22, was recently seen campaigning for Shambhavi Choudhary, the LJP (RV) candidate from Samastipur Lok Sabha seat.
The assailants cornered Harsh near the parking area of the college and started hitting him with rods and bricks. Strangely, the onlookers did not come to the rescue of the boy. Harsh was declared dead by doctors at Patna Medical College Hospital.
City SP (east) Bharat Soni said the exact cause of the murder was yet to be ascertained. “Initial investigations revealed that Harsh had a fight with some students during Dussehra over organising a ‘dandiya night’ function. He was pursuing BA (English honours) course,” he said, adding the assailants could not be identified as they had covered their faces with masks.
“We have started an investigation into the matter,” Soni said, adding the footage of CCTV cameras was being scanned to identify the assailants and arrest them.
