IND vs AFG Highlights, T20 World Cup 2024: Surya, bowlers fashion India's 47-run win over Afghanistan in Super 8 clash

Suryakumar Yadav smashed his second successive half-century and Jasprit Bumrah proved his worth with the ball as India beat Afghanistan by 47 runs in a strong start to their Super Eight stage campaign at the T20 World Cup on Thursday. Electing to bat in the Group 1 game, India posted a strong 181-8, riding a 60-run stand between Suryakumar (53) and Hardik Pandya (32). When they returned to defend the total, pace spearhead Bumrah (3-7) rattled Afghanistan with his double strike in the powerplay. Fellow seamer Arshdeep Singh also claimed three wickets as Afghanistan were all out for 134 in exactly 20 overs.

That's it! Arshdeep Singh wraps up the game with a wicket of Noor Ahmed off the final ball of the match as India secure their first Super 8 win of the 2024 T20 World Cup. Defending 181, an all-round India bowlers stop Afghanistan at 134 all out and win the game by 47 runs. Jasprit Bumrah (4-1-7-3) was the star of the show, claiming a three-fer. The other pacer Arshdeep Singh also claimed three wickets while spinners Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja shared 4 wickets between them. Afghanistan were never in the chase, losing wickets at regular intervals. Azmatullah Omarzai scored 26 and Najibullah Zadran hit 19 but no one got going for Afghans in the chase. A convincing win for India as they remain unbeaten in the tournament. India next face Bangladesh on Saturday!
