Film producer Shibasish Sarkar gets elected as President of the Producers Guild of India

Producer Shibasish Sarkar, known for backing films like ‘The Girl On The Train’ and ‘Viceroy’s House’ was unanimously elected as President of the Producers Guild of India at the first meeting of its newly constituted Guild Council of Management.

Producer Shibasish Sarkar, known for backing films like ‘The Girl On The Train’ and ‘Viceroy’s House’ was unanimously elected as President of the Producers Guild of India at the first meeting of its newly constituted Guild Council of Management.
The meeting was held immediately after the 68th Annual General Meeting on 21st September 2022. The Guild’s leadership team for 2022-2023 will have Mr Manish Goswami, Mr Apoorva Mehta, Mr Sunjoy Waddhwa, Ms Madhu Bhojwani, and Ms Ambika Khurana as Vice Presidents and Mr Ashim Samanta, Ms Fazila Allana as Treasurers.

Previously it was Siddharth Roy Kapur as the President of the ‘Guild’. He would have also served as guild president for six consecutive years by the end of 2022. But after being re-elected for the 2021 committee, he announced that he would contest the guild elections next year. He wanted 2022 to be a phase of leadership transition and bring in a new president.

Producers Guild of India is a film, television and digital content producers’ body represented by producers of audio-visual content in India. It comprises varied roles which bring in a change in the development of the film, television and new media production sector. These representatives work closely with the government and stakeholders on industry-related regulatory challenges, policy matters, copyright protection, and taxation.
