Priyadarshan: I have decided to not do comedy films in Malayalam anymore
Filmmaker Priyadarshan is known for his comedy films. The characters he weaves and the moments he creates on the silver screen have smoothened the hearts of generations of moviegoers. Be it Phylvan Vasu Pillai from 'Odaruthammava Aalariyam', Dickammayi from 'Boeing Boeing', Sardar Krishna Kurup from 'Mazha Peyyunnu Maddalam Kottunnu', Sulaiman from 'Vellanakalude Nadu', Bhaskaran Nambiar from 'Chithram', or Unnithan from 'Manichitrathazhu', Priyadarshan has gave birth to some memorable comic characters, who remain immortal in the hearts of the Malayali moviegoers.

In a recent interview, Priyadarshan confirmed that he won’t be delivering comedy films in Malayalam anymore. The veteran filmmaker shared that though his comedy films were well accepted, the scope of doing one in the present scenario is zero, as he is ‘insecure’.
Priyadarshan said that for the success of all of his blockbuster films, be it 'Vellanakalude Naadu', 'Thenmavin Kombathu', 'Kilukkam', 'Chithram', or 'Chandralekha', he can only take 50 percent credit, as the reset were contributed by the actors. The veteran stated that some of the ‘great performers’ including Kuthiravattam Pappu, Innocent, Thilakan, Jagathy, and Nedumudi Venu, are no longer in the picture. “Nobody is alive today. They are all gone. Now I am insecure,” he stressed.
Priyadarshan went on to add that creating a hilarious moment requires a lot of timing and interaction between the performers. He added that he isn’t confident whether a situational comedy or a slapstick might work as intended today, because of the earlier cited reasons. “I am scared,” he added.

On the work front, Priyadarshan’s film ‘Corona Papers’, a procedural thriller has hit the cinemas today (Apr 6).
