Samuthirakani plays a differently abled dad in this human drama
Siva Prasad Yanala, who has been a writer on films like Venky Mama and Anthaku Minchi, is making his debut as a director with Vimanam, which stars Samuthirakani and Meera Jasmine in the lead roles. The film will be a heartwarming drama revolving around a father and his son, who dreams of going on a plane, informs the director.
Interestingly, the idea came about from his own life, he reveals.
“Four years ago, I used to live near the airport. Every day, my son, who was then four years old, and I would go near the compound wall of the airport and look at planes landing and taking off. My son loved those sights and always told me that he wanted to go on a plane. I told him that once he grows up, he can go. But he wanted to go in the next few days. I told him I myself have not gone on a plane. This conversation gave me an idea about a father with a son who has dreams of going on a plane,” says Siva Prasad, and adds, “Some of the scenes in the film are taken right out of my real life. However, I have treated this premise in a cinematic way. ”
Talking about why he chose Samuthirakani, he says, “I wanted a good performer who also had a dark complexion. I loved Samuthirakani’s acting in Raghuvaran B Tech (the Telugu-dubbed versionof Velaiilla Pattadhari) and Vada Chennai, and I felt he would be apt. Telugu actor Dhanraj put me in touch with Samuthirakani. ”
While Meera Jasmine will appear in a suspense character, Tollywood actress Anasuya Bharadwaj plays a woman in the slum. Dhanraj and Rahul Ramakrishna play an auto-driver and a cobbler respectively. “These five form the principal characters of the film,” states the director.
Master Dhruvan, the child actor who played the young Allu Arjun in Pushpa: The Rise, has been cast in the role of Samuthirakani’s son. Naan Kadavul Rajendran is also part of the cast.
The director says that the film will be a Tamil-Telugu bilingual, and he has shot key scenes in both the languages. “Prabhakar has written the Tamil dialogues,” he adds.
