6 times Meghan Markle took style cues from her late mother-in-law Princess Diana

The people’s princess was a fashion icon, much ahead of her time. Diana knew when and how to be photographed and opted for her classic wardrobe essentials. From chic modest designs to usual casuals, Diana uplifted and accessorised her outfits with unique vintage items which eventually created fashion trends. Meghan Markle was captured with Prince Harry at the 2020 Commonwealth Day Service in London and wearing an emerald green Emilia Wickstead cape dress with a matching handbag and black and green headgear. Back in 1982, Diana was spotted wearing a similar shade of dress with a button-up bodice, puffed sleeves, and a textured neckline with same-shade headgear which looked stunning on her.

In 1990, Diana was spotted wearing a beautiful royal blue shimmer down with long puffed sleeves, a sweetheart neckline, and a ruched bodice gathered around the waist. In 1985, Diana was seen attending the annual Royal Ascot race and wore a white and black blazer dress with a black hat having a white rim. After 33 years, while attending the same event, Meghan Markle wore the same dress created by Givenchy without the black detailing but added a black belt around her waist, and wore a black and white hat just like her late mother-in-law’s.

Meghan Markle looked subtle and chic as she visited Sydney, Australia with Prince Harry in a sleeveless white bodycon knee-length dress with a fitted waist and covered neck detailing. She paired it with tan heels, and a golden bracelet, and wore Princess Diana’s butter-shaped earrings. But, in 1995 Diana already wore a similar piece, though shorter than Meghan’s, and added a statement pearl jewellery.

Years later, in 2021, Meghan Markle was spotted wearing a deep-neck red strappy dress, similar to Diana’s by Carolina Herrera, as she walked the red carpet in New York City.
