Wow! Incredibly humbled and honored to have received 5 awards from the Indigenous Journalists Association ’s 2024 Indigenous Media Awards for my work at Underscore News / Report for America. I also found out last week I received a separate photo award from the Society of Professional Journalists. A huge shout out to everyone who trusted me to share your stories and photos with the world! Thank you! I love that I get to do this important work and share stories of joy and accountability for the people and communities I serve. Congratulations to the other award winners. Aloha! 'Auli'i Nathaniel and I won first place at the Indigenous Media Awards for “Deeper Truths” in Ka Wai Ola. We are still very saddened that the tragedy on Maui prompted the work. That said, I’m so very proud of my incredibly talented sister and ho’omaika’i to the wonderful teams at Ka Wai Ola and the Indigenous Journalists Association.

Woah. I won 1st place in the IJA Awards for my Indigenous Veterans photo-essay. I wasn’t even aware I’d been entered! Thank you, Cara. I feel so lucky to work for IndigiNews. It feels like being a part of the future somehow. And thank you Indigenous Journalists Association. ❤️
