EMPCo is proud to support STEM initiatives, fueling young minds and providing opportunities for students to learn new skills for the future. By partnering with the Tapia Center at Rice University to bring their STEM CCS summer camp to middle and high school students at Southern University and A&M College- Baton Rouge, we’re creating opportunities to educate future energy and community leaders. https://lnkd.in/e7n6F2cc

North America has some of the largest known carbon dioxide storage capabilities in the world, but we need additional ways to connect these storage sites with the technology that captures the carbon emissions at their source. CO₂ has been transported safely by pipeline in the U.S. for decades. There are currently more than 5,000 miles of CO₂ pipelines operating in the U.S., and some studies suggest we will need 60,000 more miles by 2050. CO₂ pipelines are key to a lower-carbon future, and the safest way to move captured carbon emissions to permanent storage. https://lnkd.in/gmZJsUUf

We’d like to recognize one of our very own, Leavitt Hamilton, an ERST Engineering Tech for MASE. A member of the EMPCo team for the past 16 years, his day-to-day responsibilities include supporting the MASE Baton Rouge maintenance and operations business teams, and assisting in regulatory compliance, training coordination, community outreach, emergency response and more. When he is not at work, Leavitt is an active fisherman who competes in professional events across the Gulf Coast. His dedication and hard work directly translate to the success he’s seen in his fishing circuit. He’ll be competing in the Major League Fishing Toyota Series Championship in November, and we wish him the best of luck!

This summer we partnered with the Tapia Center to integrate STEM CCS curriculum into summer camp programs for middle and high school students across the Gulf Coast. This STEM initiative was introduced in 2024 at Jackson State University, where 60 campers spent a week learning about carbon dioxide and its effective management through hands-on project-based learning, team building and problem solving. https://lnkd.in/g5Sm4hX5

Safety is our top priority. That’s why we partner with the world-renowned Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service - TEEX to provide local and regional emergency first responders with advanced pipeline emergency response training. We've sponsored this training for nearly 1,000 first responders in our communities over the past five years. This program provides classroom instruction and hands-on training, dealing with simulations of the most relevant pipeline and storage tank emergency scenarios – including an industry-first simulated CO₂ pipeline release.
