This week, ExxonMobil took a big step towards its plan to produce virtually carbon-free air, and it’s happening right here in Baytown! * * * * A leading diversified energy and petrochemicals group fully owned by the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, ADNOC, has officially signed an agreement to acquire a 35% equity stake in ExxonMobil Corporation’s proposed low-carbon hydrogen and ammonia production facility here in Baytown. This facility expects to convert U.S.-produced natural gas into virtually carbon-free hydrogen, bringing substantial economic benefits to Baytown, the Houston area, and Texas. #RealWorldProgress #EnergyTransition

Founded in 1919, the Baytown Refinery began operation in 1920 and the Chemical Plant started up in 1940. The complex is located on approximately 3,400 acres along the Houston Ship Channel, about 25 miles east of Houston. It is comprised of four manufacturing sites, including one in nearby Mont Belvieu, and a global technology center. Employing a workforce of approximately 7,000, the Baytown area sites are highly integrated which makes the plants and products more efficient. We are developing technologies to make cleaner fuels and are working together to operate more safely and reliably. Last week, our Black Employees Success Team (BEST) employee resource group attended the SLOAN STEM + Arts camp. BEST members explained what it is like to have a career in STEM, and provided participants with an overview of products that we make. The camp’s mission is “to empower and inspire minority students to pursue STEM careers by enhancing their access to early exposure, affordable and relatable mentoring.” Over 100 kids participated and were exposed to a full week of STEM related activities.
