A low-cost arm of French car-hire giant Europcar, Goldcar has a large network of car rental offices across Europe.
Avoid Goldcar at all costs. It's the worst provider in our survey.

Hire Company | Which? Recommended Provider? | Customer Score |
---|---|---|
Goldcar | No | 52% |
Customer score is based on a combination of overall satisfaction and how likely people are to recommend the company
Goldcar has been one of the worst performers in this survey for more than a decade. Its headline prices might be low, but the two-star value-for-money rating says it all.
Goldcar also received two stars for its customer service. One customer told us they thought Goldcar staff simply ‘didn’t care’.
We were also informed about ‘very high pressure selling’ by multiple customers, something we experienced for ourselves when we went undercover at Malaga and Alicante airport. Another respondent described them as ‘incompetent’ and ‘sharks’.
Customers told us they faced long waits in Goldcar’s queues. The fleet of vehicles didn’t impress either. One customer said they had to spend 10 minutes checking the car over as they described it as having ‘a catalogue of prangs and marks’. Another was staggered that ‘there was so much unreported damage on the vehicle’ that they were later billed for, despite providing photographic evidence - just one of many respondents who told us they were charged for pre-existing damage.
No. With terrible customer service and a catalogue of complaints from customers, Goldcar should be avoided at all costs.
