    Gold folio additions surge in April even as smart investors book profits

    Synopsis

    The assets under management (AUM) of gold ETFs rose by 43% YoY to a record Rs 32,789 crore while the total folio count reached 51 lakh, the data from Association of Mutual Funds in India (AMFI) showed. The total inflow in the past 12 months was Rs 5,248 crore.

    The latest data on the folio additions and fund flows in the gold exchange traded funds (ETFs) reveal a contradictory trend among retail and high networth investors. The monthly folio addition in gold ETFs hit a near two-year high of 1.2 lakh in April 2024. However, these ETFs registered a net outflow of Rs 395 crore, first time in the past 12 months. This implies that while retail investors are participating with low ticket size investments,
