Investors turn active on passive investing strategy in a volatile market

    Synopsis

The assets under management (AUM) of index funds have gone up from Rs 5,300 crore in April 2019 to Rs 54,737 crore as on February 2022. The AUMs of gold exchange-traded funds (ETFs) and equity ETFs have surged over 300% and 195% to touch Rs 18,728 crore and Rs 3,91,436 crore, respectively, during the period. Net monthly inflows into these categories of products range between Rs 1,500 crore and Rs 2,500 crore.

Mumbai: Passive investing strategies — which involve parking money in index or exchange traded funds – are gaining popularity among investors who want to eliminate stock-selection risks in a volatile market. The lower asset management charges on these products make them appealing to the cost-conscious savers. In addition, global investors are taking this route to gain exposure to Indian equities. The assets under management (AUM) of index funds
