    Pre-market action: Here's the trade setup for today's session

    The net short of FIIs at Rs 4659 crore on Thursday increased to Rs 16,240 crore on Friday.
    Domestic indices ended a three-day losing streak on Friday as the global market took a breather. In today's trade, the market will react to the results of index heavyweights like Reliance, HUL, ICICI Bank, and Kotak Bank.

    "Overall we expect domestic equities to trade in a broader range with positive bias," said Siddhartha Khemka, Head - Retail Research, Motilal Oswal.

    Here's breaking down the pre-market actions:

    STATE OF THE MARKETS
    GIFT Nifty (Earlier SGX Nifty) signals a positive start
    GIFT Nifty on the NSE IX last traded higher by 24 points, or 0.11 per cent, at 21,697.50, signaling that Dalal Street was headed for positive start on Saturday.

    • Tech View: As long as the sharp opening downside gap of Wednesday remains open at 21970, there is a higher probability of a sell on rise in the market for the short term. Immediate support is at 21550 levels, said Nagaraj Shetti of HDFC Securities.
    • India VIX: India VIX, which is a measure of the fear in the markets, fell 1.37% to settle at 13.88 levels.

    US stocks gain
    The S&P 500 posted a record high close on Friday for the first time in two years, fueled by a rally in chipmakers and other heavyweight technology stocks on optimism around artificial intelligence.
    • S&P 500 up 1.23%,
    • Nasdaq rises 1.70%,
    • Dow gains 1.05%

    Oil drops
    Oil prices settled slightly lower on Friday but recorded a weekly gain as Middle East tensions and disruptions to oil output offset concerns about the Chinese and global economies.

    Securities in the ban period under the F&O segment include companies in which the security has crossed 95% of the market-wide position limit.

    FII/DII action
    Foreign portfolio investors were net sellers at Rs 3,689 crore on Friday. DIIs bought shares worth Rs 2,638 crore.

    Rupee
    The rupee gained 6 paise to settle at 83.07 against the US dollar on Friday, tracking robust buying in domestic equity markets and weak American currency overseas.

    FII data
    The net short of FIIs at Rs 4659 crore on Thursday increased to Rs 16,240 crore on Friday.

    Q3 results
    ICICI Bank, Kotak, IDBI Bank, IDFC First Bank and a slew of other companies will announce their third quarter results today.
