Stock market update: Nifty Auto index falls 0.62%

NEW DELHI: The Nifty Auto index closed on a negative note on Monday.

Shares of Ashok Leyland(up 2.16 per cent) and Sona BLW Precision Forgings(up 0.47 per cent) ended the day as top gainers in the pack.

On the other hand, Hero MotoCorp(down 1.75 per cent), Samvardhana Motherson International(down 1.64 per cent), Bharat Forge(down 1.47 per cent), Eicher Motors(down 1.19 per cent) and TVS Motor Company(down 1.1 per cent) finished as the top losers of the day.

The Nifty Auto index closed 0.62 per cent down at 14676.7.

Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index ended down 70.55 points at 18755.45, while the BSE Sensex stood down 216.28 points at 63168.3.

Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 14 ended in the green, while 36 closed in the red.

Shares of Alok Industries, Suzlon Energy, Reliance Power, YES Bank and IDFC First Bank were among the most traded shares on the NSE.

Shares of Skipper Ltd, Crest Ventures, Rollatainers Ltd, HPL Electric Power and De Neers Tools hit their fresh 52-week highs in today's trade, while Quality Foils(India, Supreme Engineering, Viaz Tyres, Sahana System and Rachana Infrastructu hit their fresh 52-week lows.
