Acharya Balkrishna’s Journey so far...
- Acharya Balkrishna attended a gurukul in Kalwa, Haryana, under the guidance of the late Acharya Baldev. It was here where he met yoga guru Baba Ramdev, who later went on to become his close confidant
- In 1995, Balkrishna and Ramdev together set up Divya Pharmacy to treat people with the help of ayurvedic medicine and yoga. In a very short span of time, the duo launched manufacturing facilities in Haridwar to make ayurvedic medicines
- In 2006, Patanjali Yogpeeth was inaugurated in Haridwar, and in the same year Acharya Balkrishna along with Baba Ramdev set up Patanjali Ayurved. As Balkrishna ran the operations of the company, Baba Ramdev became the de facto brand ambassador of Patanjali
- From noodles to shampoo and toothpaste, Acharya Balkrishna steered Patanjali Ayurved to help it become one of India's top fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) companies, making established brands sweat
- In the financial year 2016-17, Patanjali had a turnover of Rs 10,561 crore, thus becoming the second-largest FMCG giant after the leader Hindustan Unilever Limited, beating players like Nestle India, Colgate-Palmolive, P&G Healthcare and Hygiene
- With 98.6% stake in Patanjali Ayurved, Acharya Balakrishna has disrupted the FMCG market with over 500 products in categories like food, personal care, healthcare and home care
- Clad in a white dhoti and often nicknamed the Billionaire Monk, Acharya Balkrishna outsmarted other companies by pricing Patanjali products 20-30% cheaper. He used the goodness of Ayurveda and made Baba Ramdev endorse most of the company's products. He tied up with major eCommerce platforms like Amazon and Flipkart to sell Patanjali products online
- In 2019, Patanjali led by Balkrishna became a major player in soybean oils and other edible oils after it acquired Ruchi Soya for Rs 4,350 crore under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code
