    Three militants were killed and a police officer injured in an encounter in the Sinno area of Gandoh, Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir. The militants were foreigners involved in attacks on armed forces earlier this month. Police have recovered three rifles from them, including two M4 carbines.

    In an overnight encounter in Nehama, Pulwama, armed forces neutralized a top Lashkar-e-Taiba commander and his associate. The operation began following a tip-off about militants in the area, leading to an exchange of fire lasting until morning.     According to police, Bhat was involved in killing of local army personnel Umer Fayaz of Kulgam and had hurled a grenade upon non-local labourers in Hermain, in which two non-local labourers were killed. "He was also involved in killing of a Kashmiri Pandit Sunil Kumar Bhat and injuring another Kashmiri Pandit Pretimber Nath of Shopian.

      Five LeT militants killed in Kulgam; weapons found

      In an overnight encounter in Samno village of DH Pora area of Kulgam in southern Kashmir, five militants associated with Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) were killed and one army personnel was injured. The militants killed in the encounter were identified as Yasir Bilal Bhat, Danish Hameed Thoker, Ubaid Ahmad Padder, Sameer Farooq Sheikh and Hanzal Yaqoob Shah, all residents of southern Kashmir.

      The armed forces have killed over 65 militants including over 40 foreigners across J&K this year till now. Earlier this month director general of J&K police R R Swain along with the Director General of CRPF Dr. Sujoy Lal Thaosen jointly chaired a high level meeting to review the security arrangements ahead of the winter season. Swain stressed for augmenting and enhancing capabilities and directed for launching the operations in higher reaches and flushing the hiding local and foreign militants.

      Acting on a specific input regarding the presence of terrorists in the Kujjar area of Kulgam in south Kashmir, a cordon and search operation was launched by security forces there, a police spokesman said. During the operation, the hiding terrorists fired indiscriminately at the search party, which retaliated effectively, he said.

      A terrorist was killed in an encounter with security forces on Tuesday in Jammu and Kashmir's Kulgam district, police said. They said a Jammu and Kashmir Police personnel was injured in the operation in Hoowra area of the south Kashmir district.
