Chandrayaan-2 had failed in its lunar phase when its lander 'Vikram' crashed into the surface of the Moon following anomalies in the braking system in the lander while attempting a touch down on September 7, 2019.

    NASA has appointed Amit Kshatriya, an Indian-American software and robotics engineer, as the head of its newly-established Moon to Mars Programme. Kshatriya will be responsible for programme planning and implementation for human missions to the Moon and Mars as well as lead planning and analysis for long-lead developments to support human Mars missions. His role is essential for preparing NASA's missions to land the first humans on Mars.
