- Aamir Khan first appeared on the silver screen as a child artist in the 1973 movie Yaadon Ki Baaraat and then in Madhosh the following year
- He used to do theatre and worked as an assistant director before becoming an actor
- After appearing in supporting roles in a few movies, Khan made his debut as a lead actor in Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak, released in 1988. He won the best male debut Filmfare award for his role in the movie
- His next commercial successes such as Dil in 1990, Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahin in 1991 and the 1992 movie Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar established him as a romantic hero
