Duo nabbed in IPL betting case; 21k, devices seized
Ludhiana: The city police on Sunday arrested two accused for causing financial loss to innocent persons by allegedly making them gamble in the ongoing IPL cricket match and other cricket matches in other countries. The arrested accused were identified as Manmeet Singh of Guru Arjan Dev Nagar, and Kamal Kumar of Mohalla Ragis in Machiwara.
CIA-II inspector Beant Juneja said that a police party was present near Fountain Chowk at Rakh Bagh to check suspicious persons and vehicles, when it got the information that the accused were involved in betting.He added that the accused would buy master card from online betting platforms and further sell the user ID and password to their customers who would place bets on the outcomes of the matches.
Police said that by making people gamble, the accused would cause them financial loss. The accused were sitting outside a house near Rose Garden when they were arrested.
Police recovered two mobile phones, a laptop and cash worth Rs 21,300 from the duo. Division number 8 police station has registered a case against the accused under the relevant sections of the Cheating and Gambling acts. tnn
