MUMBAI: Money was fraudulently transferred from a 44-year-old Borivli woman's credit card after scamsters gained remote access to her mobile and applied for a loan for Rs9 lakhs using the card details.
Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) police said the scamster quickly transferred Rs3.79 lakhs out of the total loan sum credited to RR Pujari's bank account on December 7.

At the time of the fraud, Pujari (a senior executive with a Construction Firm) was in her BKC office between 3.49 pm and 3.59 pm. "We have sought the transaction details from the bank to locate the accused. Meanwhile, the cyber team is also tracking the number that the scamster has used to impersonate as bank's telecaller and call Pujari asking her to update her KYC so that her credit card does not get blocked," said a police officer of the BKC police station.
Two fraudulent transactions--Rs 1.89 lakhs and Rs 1.9 lakhs--were carried out from Pujari's bank account after Rs 9 lakhs were credited to Pujari's account after the fraudster gained access to her bank account. In the complaint, Pujari said: "The fraudster asked me to update my credit card KYC and asked me to click on the link that I received on my WhatsApp number. As I entered my banking, Aadhar, and PAN card details I received a text alert about the loan processed on my card."
The caller kept Pujari engaged on the call before the two transactions were carried out from her account. "Suspecting something amiss, the complainant immediately called the bank and stopped the balance sum of the loan that got credited to her account," said a police officer.
A total of 5879 credit card fraud cases have been registered from 2017 to 2023 in Mumbai and the city police have managed to solve just 312 during the period.
