PATNA: Police on Monday arrested Chandan Kumar, the prime accused in the brutal murder of Harsh Raj, a BA final-year student of B N College.
Harsh, who had a brawl with some students of Patna University over organising a “dandiya night” event during Dussehra last year, was beaten to death by a group of masked youths in the parking lot of Patna Law College, where he had gone to write an exam on Monday.
City SP (east) Bharat Soni said Chandan is a resident of Bihta and a final-year student of Patna College. “During interrogation, he confessed to his crime. Chandan, who resided in the Jackson Hostel of PU, had hatched the plan to kill Raj over an old enmity between the students’ groups,” he said.
The SP told reporters that the accused had shared the location of the victim with the other anti-social elements, already present on the law college premises on Monday. “The moment Raj came out of the exam centre, Chandan and his aides, armed with sticks and iron rods, surrounded him and thrashed him brutally, following which he succumbed to his injuries at hospital,” Bharat said.
Police have identified the other miscreants, including some PU students, with the help of technical evidences and manual inputs.
