Bollywood actress and BJP MP-elect Kangana Ranaut found herself at the centre of a new controversy after a member of her team was caught on camera, slapping a woman at an airport. The incident has sparked widespread debate online, with netizens calling out what they perceive as "selective outrage" following Thursday's incident where the actress was reportedly slapped in the face by a CISF constable.

Kangana Ranaut's Associate Assaults Woman at Airport; Internet Demands Action

The controversy unfolded at the Chandigarh airport when Kangana claimed she was slapped and verbally abused by a constable named Kulwinder Kaur during a security check. Videos from the airport saw Kaur, visibly agitated and explaining her actions, saying, "Kangana made a statement that farmers were protesting in Delhi because they were paid Rs 100 or Rs 200. At the time, my mother was one of the protesters."
Promptly after the incident, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), responsible for airport security, suspended Kaur and lodged an FIR against her. The CISF also ordered a court of inquiry into the incident.

Clips of the altercation at the airport security check soon went viral online. However, in a twist to the controversy, a video showing a man from Ranaut's team slapping a woman team member at the airport sparked outrage. Sharing the clip of the man hitting the woman on her head, many called out the perceived double standards in the reactions to both incidents.
Posting the clip online, a netizen wrote, "A man who was seen with Kangana, hitting the lady who was handling Kangana's bag!!!"

Netizens have pointed out that while there was a significant uproar over the actress and politician being hit, the man from her own team has not received the same level of condemnation.

An X user wrote, "We all saw #Kangana get slapped Did we see another woman, not a movie star, not an MP, not someone popular, also get hit in this video? Outrage over Kangana is justified, Silence over the second woman, who gets hit is acceptable? Who is the man? And how dare he hit this woman?"
Another wrote, "Ok everyone cares about kangana, what about this woman slapped by man??? A woman who seem to be concerned about @KanganaTeam slapped by her men, wow..."

Calling for action against the man in the video, another wrote, "Hopefully, this slap will also be investigated."

Netizens then went on to share the man's picture and try to determine his identity. "Who Is This Man Wearing Himachali Topi? Seems Like From Kangana Team, He's Slapping A Woman, Why No one Raising Voice For Her," one asked.

Another X user claimed that the man in question was Mayank Madhur. In a post, he said, "New video just dropped showing after* Kangana attempted to push past security with her phone and got slapped her deputy, Mayank Madhur (man in cap), slapped one of their own employees (woman in black)."

This shocking incident unfolded just two days after Ranaut's electoral victory in the Mandi Lok Sabha seat in Himachal Pradesh. In a video posted on her X handle, Ranaut claimed that the constable was upset with her stance on the farmers' protests. In a video statement, she described the incident, saying, "She hit me in the face and started abusing me. I asked her why she did it and she said she supports the farmer protests."

The National Commission for Women (NCW) has taken up the matter with the CISF. NCW chairperson Rekha Sharma termed the incident serious and called for stringent action against the constable.
Various news agencies have reported that a minor scuffle broke out following Kangana's refusal to hand over her mobile phone for the mandatory security check. The actress-turned-MP is then said to have pushed aside the security personnel on duty.
Officials stated that Kaur joined the CISF in 2009 and has been with the aviation security group at the Chandigarh airport since 2021. Until this incident, she had no record of vigilance inquiries or punishments. Her husband is also posted at the same airport.
The incident has since been condemned by members of the film industry and members of various political parties, including opposition parties, who have demanded action be taken against the constable.
