In the 2019 polls, BJP's Smriti Irani emerged triumphant, wresting the seat from Rahul Gandhi. Seeking re-election, Irani faces Congress candidate Kishori Lal Sharma, a close associate of the Gandhi family, in the 2024 elections.
Lok Sabha poll trends show that BJP leader Smriti Irani is trailing behind Congress leader Kishori Lal Sharma from Amethi constituency.At 1:00 pm Kishori Lal Sharma has the lead of 60,206 votes.

Notably, this marks the first instance in twenty-five years that a member of the Gandhi family is not contesting from the Amethi Lok Sabha seat.
The Amethi constituency went to polls on May 20 during the fifth phase of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, recording a voter turnout of 54.34%.

In the historic 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Smriti Irani's resounding victory, with 468,514 votes, underscored the shifting electoral landscape in Amethi. Rahul Gandhi, the runner-up, secured 413,394 votes, highlighting the closely contested nature of the electoral battle.
The 2014 Lok Sabha elections also witnessed a fierce contest between the Congress and BJP star candidates, Rahul Gandhi and Smriti Irani, respectively. Rahul Gandhi emerged victorious, garnering 4,08,650 votes, which constituted 46.82% of the total votes polled in the constituency.
