PATTERN
The Weekend Hat is worked in 1 x 1 rib and has a folded edge. Double knitting is worked along the folding
edges to ensure that these stay in place.

Hat
Cast on 104 (104) 112 (112) 112 (120) sts on a 3.5 mm [US4] / 40 cm [16 inches] circular needle using the
Italian cast-on technique or the long-tail cast-on method (the cast-on edge is hidden on the finished hat).
Join in the round making sure that the cast-on edge is not twisted and place a marker for the beginning of
the round.

Work in the round in 1 x 1 rib (k1, p1) until the work measures 7 (8) 8 (9) 9 (10) cm [2¾ (3¼) 3¼ (3½) 3½ (4)
inches].

Work 3 rounds in double knitting (to form the folding edge) as follows:
Round 1: * Slip 1 stitch purl-wise with the yarn held in back, p1 *, repeat from * to * to end of round.
Round 2: * K1, slip 1 stitch purl-wise with the yarn held in front *, repeat from * to * to end of round.
Round 3: Work as Round 1.

Continue in the round in 1 x 1 rib (k1, p1) until the work measures 15 (17) 17 (19) 19 (21) cm [6 (6¾) 6¾ (7½)
7½ (8¼) inches] from the cast-on edge.

Work 3 rounds in double knitting (to form the folding edge) as described above.

Continue in the round in rib (k1, p1) until the work measures 26 (28) 30 (33) 35 (37) cm [10¼ (11) 11¼ (13)
13¾ (14½) inches] from the cast on edge.

Decreases
Now work decreases to shape the top of the hat. Change to 3.5 mm [US4] double-pointed needles when it
becomes necessary.

Move the beginning of round marker 1 stitch over, so the first stitch of the round is a purl stitch. Place 3
more markers with 26 (26) 28 (28) 28 (30) sts between each marker (there are now a total of 4 markers on
the needle).

Work decreases every other round as follows:

Round 1: * P1, k1, p1, slip 1 stitch knit-wise, k1, pass the slipped stitch over the just knitted stitch, work
in rib as the sts appear to 2 sts before marker, k2tog*, work from * to * a total of 4 times. (8 sts
have been decreased)
Round 2: Work in established rib pattern, working sts as they appear.
Work Rounds 1 and 2 a total of 8 (8) 9 (9) 9 (10) times. There are now a total of 40 sts on the needles.

Now work decreases as follows:

Round 1: * P1, k1, p1, slip 1 stitch knit-wise, k1, pass the slipped stitch over the just knitted stitch, work
in rib as the sts appear to 2 sts before marker, k2tog*, work from * to * a total of 4 times. (8 sts
have been decreased). There are now a total of 32 sts on the needles.
Round 2: * P1, k1, p1, slip 1 stitch knit-wise, k1, pass the slipped stitch over the just knitted stitch, work
in rib as the sts appear to 2 sts before marker, k2tog*, work from * to * a total of 4 times. (8 sts
have been decreased). There are now a total of 24 (24) 24 sts on the needles.
Round 3: * Slip 1 stitch knit-wise, k1, pass the slipped stitch over the just knitted stitch*, work from * to *
to end of round. There are now a total of 12 sts on the needles.

Break the yarn and pull the end through the remaining sts on the needles. Pull tight to close the crown,
secure the end and weave in all end ends.

Fold the hat at the double knitted round for wearing it.
