CIABC, a liquor industry group lobby, has urged the consumer affairs ministry to allow unfettered advertising rights for brand extensions, provided there is no misrepresentation or miscommunication. This request follows a recent government directive asking alcohol makers to submit a list of surrogate products sold under identical brand names within 15 days.

While they are not under the FMCG category if one looks at the difference between date of manufacturing of a bottle of liquor and the date at which it is being bought for consumption, it is probably lesser than what one would find in typical FMCG products like a shampoo or packet of chips or biscuit. Liquor and breweries are probably the “fastest moving consumer product”. Despite this, the liquor and breweries sector has been plagued by tons of problems and except for a couple of stocks, the street has ignored them.
