Stock market update: FMCG stocks down as market rises

NEW DELHI: FMCG shares closed higher in the Thursday's session.

Umang Dairies Ltd.(up 5.81%), Procter & Gamble Hygiene & Healthcare Ltd.(up 4.86%), Varun Beverages Ltd.(up 1.99%), Colgate-Palmolive(India)Ltd.(up 1.39%), ADF Foods Ltd.(up 1.13%), Hindustan Unilever Ltd.(up 0.68%) and Britannia Industries Ltd.(up 0.16%) stood among the top gainers.

Dodla Dairy Ltd.(down 5.44%), Godrej Consumer Products Ltd.(down 3.70%), Patanjali Foods Ltd.(down 2.72%), Emami Ltd.(down 2.56%), Euro India Fresh Foods Ltd.(down 2.29%), Jyothy Labs Ltd.(down 2.22%), Hindustan Foods Ltd.(down 2.07%), JHS Svendgaard Laboratories Ltd.(down 2.04%), Heritage Foods Ltd.(down 2.03%) and Parag Milk Foods Ltd.(down 1.97%) were among the top losers of the day.

The NSE Nifty50 index ended 175.71 points up at 24044.5, while the 30-share BSE Sensex closed up 568.93 points at 79243.18.

UltraTech Cement Ltd.(up 5.15%), LTIMindtree Ltd.(up 3.86%), Grasim Industries Ltd.(up 3.35%), NTPC Ltd.(up 3.32%), Wipro Ltd.(up 3.16%), Dr. Reddy's Laboratories Ltd.(up 2.74%), JSW Steel Ltd.(up 2.61%), Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd.(up 2.17%), Tata Motors Ltd.(up 2.13%) and Infosys Ltd.(up 2.12%) stood among the top gainers in the Nifty pack.

On the other hand, Shriram Finance Ltd.(down 1.28%), Larsen & Toubro Ltd.(down 1.07%), Bajaj Auto Ltd.(down 0.61%), Eicher Motors Ltd.(down 0.55%), Divi's Laboratories Ltd.(down 0.51%), Coal India Ltd.(down 0.37%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd.(down 0.33%), HDFC Bank Ltd.(down 0.32%), State Bank of India(down 0.16%) and Maruti Suzuki India Ltd.(down 0.16%) closed in the red.
