Few days after extortion call, bizman’s house in VVIP sector comes under fire
Chandigarh: A businessman’s house, located just a few metres away from the UT DGP’s official residence, came under fire in Sector 5, a VVIP zone, in the early hours on Saturday.
Though cops were tight-lipped on the incident, sources said miscreants fired two bullets which hit the windscreen of the SUV. Police suspected involvement of associates of gangster Goldy Brar behind firing, sources said.
Sources said in his complaint, businessman Kuldeep Makkar, a resident of Sector 5, claimed that he was sleeping in his house and heard some gunshots around 4 am on Saturday. As he came out a few minutes later, he found a windowpane of his Toyota Fortuner damaged due to firing. He informed the police at 112 and cops from sector 3 police station reached the spot. Later, DSP central and SHO of sector 3 police station also reached the spot.
Cops brought the SUV to Sector 3 police station to conduct its forensic inspection.
Sources said the complainant had received an extortion call from gangster Brar. And when he did not give the extortion money, aides of the gangster fired gunshots to scare him. Following the incident, UT police put up barricades and deployed cops outside the house of the businessman. Sector 3 police have been scrutinising CCTV cameras installed near the crime spot to identify the attackers. But, due to dense fog in the morning, cops did not get any clue on assailants.
DGP Praveer Ranjan’s official residence is situated a few houses away from the businessman’s house.
