Min’s brother ignites a fire with lit torch as his status
Eknath Shinde
MUMBAI: Kiran Samant, brother of industries minister Uday Samant of the Shiv Sena led by CM Eknath Shinde, created a flutter in political circles after he kept the Shiv Sena (UBT) poll symbol of ‘mashaal’, or flaming torch, as his WhatsApp status recently.
Though Kiran changed the status within a few hours, it led to much speculation that he would switch over to the Shiv Sena (UBT) led by Uddhav Thackeray and cause a dent to the Shiv Sena in the Konkan.
Uday Samant is an MLA from Ratnagiri, and Kiran is said to be popular in the Ratnagiri-Sindhudurg belt.
Kiran claimed that he deleted his status to safeguard his brother’s career and avoid needless trouble for CM Shinde. Observers said Kiran was keen on contesting the Lok Sabha polls from Ratnagiri but Shiv Sena ally BJP was looking to field its own candidate there. Kiran’s status read: ‘Will see whatever happens’.
Sena (UBT) MP from Ratnagiri Vinayak Raut claimed that many like Kiran would join his party.

UBT Sena: Speaker must wrap up hearing in 1 mth
The Shiv Sena has objected to the lengthy schedule given by Speaker Rahul Narwekar for hearings in the Shiv Sena MLAs disqualification case. The hearings are expected to continue until mid-January 2024, but the Sena is urging for a quicker resolution. They argue that there is no need for individual hearings and recording evidence as the Supreme Court has already heard the case collectively. The Sena alleges that the schedule is a delaying tactic to protect the unconstitutional government. The Speaker's order dismisses the Sena's request for a summary decision without leading evidence.
