751 get degrees at NIT-Patna convocation

At least 751 students, who passed their BTech and MTech examinations in the last session, received their coveted degrees at the sixth convocation of National Institute of Technology-Patna (NIT-P) at S K Memorial Hall on Tuesday.

PATNA: At least 751 students, who passed their BTech and MTech examinations in the last session, received their coveted degrees at the sixth convocation of National Institute of Technology-Patna (NIT-P) at S K Memorial Hall on Tuesday.
Branch toppers of different undergraduate (UG) courses, who were awarded gold medals on the occasion, include Shefali Kuril (civil engineering), Khushboo Kumari (computer science and engineering), Santosh Kumar Mallik (electrical engineering), Ashish Kumar (mechanical engineering) and Madhan R (electronics and communication engineering).Toppers of various postgraduate (PG) courses, who received gold medals, are Sragdhara Bhattacharya (electrical engineering), Rajat K Chawda (civil engineering), Naveen Kumar Maurya (electronics and communication engineering), Rohit Kothari (mechanical engineering) and Shruti Gupta (information technology). BTech students Ajay Rathour (mechanical engineering) and Sneha Shrivastava (electronics and communication engineering) were declared the best graduates.
Giving away gold medals and degrees to the students, governor-cum-chancellor Ram Nath Kovind, who was the chief guest on the occasion, said, “Education, which is devoid of moral and human values, is meaningless. Modern education is producing money-earning machines as it fails to create sensitivity among the youths.”
Kovind called upon the pupils to work for ensuring the all-round development of the country with the help of latest scientific and technological advancements. He also appealed to them to work for the success of government programmes like Make in India and Swachh Bharat Mission.
Speaking as the special guest on the occasion, IIT-Kharagpur former director Damodar Acharya said continuous research and training were essential for scientific and technological development.
At the outset, NIT-P director Ashok De welcomed the guests and presented the annual report.
